Salinas to Join Cities Nationwide August 3rd 2021 for a Night Out Against Crime
Join over 38 million neighbors across thousands of communities around the nation for the annual National Night Out celebration, an annual community – building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
National Night Out will take place on Tuesday evening, August 3, 2021 starting at 4pm in neighborhoods throughout the city of Salinas. National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch.
The Focus of National Night Out is to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts.
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out is a great crime prevention tool. It encourages you and your neighbors to get together and share ideas. When neighbors know each other and pay attention to their surroundings, it helps law enforcement when neighbors recognize and report suspicious activity. The more you know about your neighborhood the more you can do to keep it safe.
Participating neighborhoods nationwide are asked to turn on outside lights, lock their doors, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Neighborhoods will be hosting a variety of events ranging from small potlucks and BBQ’s to large block parties. Some additional event ideas include, games, contests, discussing neighborhood issues or setting neighborhood goals, plan a clean-up day, beautify a common area, discuss or plan a Neighborhood Watch Program. It is up to each group to be creative, have fun and get to know your neighbors.
Register your neighborhood for this year’s event today. Registration is free and gives police and other city representatives an opportunity to attend local events as time and circumstances permit. You do NOT have to be a current Neighborhood Watch neighborhood to participate. National Night Out is for everyone! Register now and begin planning your event as soon as possible.
If you would like to host a block party in your neighborhood, you can obtain more information by contacting Karina Silva Neighborhood Services Coordinator at [email protected] or (831)758-7166 or Sgt. Steve Sparks at [email protected] or (831)758-7271. You can also visit our web page www.salinaspd.org.
Come out and join us on August 3rd in making National Night Out 2021 the best one yet!
