Police Service of Salinas Will Hold a Press Conference to Report on the Results of Operation Black Hawk from September 9, 2021

A press conference will be held at the Police Service of Salinas Headquarters in the Community Room 312 E. Alisal St, on Thursday September 16, 2021 at 10:00 am. Interim Chief Roberto Filice, Salinas PD staff and law enforcement partners will present a report on the results of Operation Black Hawk which took place on September 9, 2021.

Operation Black Hawk is a collaborative initiative that brought together federal, local, and state law enforcement to focus on a drug trafficking operation with the specific intent to transport and distribute narcotics between Yuma, Az.  and Salinas, Ca.

Suspect Arrested in 2002 Homicide

After nearly 20 years on the run, Juan Gabriel Nunez (46) has been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred on August 8, 2002. Salinas Police Officers responded to 349 Iris Dr. on a report of a missing female and her child. When officers arrived, they contacted the child’s babysitter who told them the mother, Loretta Paluszynski had not shown up to drop off the children as she normally would. Officers responded to the residence to conduct a welfare check and located Paluszynski deceased from multiple stab wounds. The children were located and were safe.

September is Pedestrian Safety Month: Be Predictable, Look Out for One Another

As part of Pedestrian Safety Month, Salinas Police Department is supporting efforts throughout September to improve pedestrian safety and help reduce crashes and injuries.

Pedestrians are more and more at risk on the road. Based on data from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), 2020 had the largest ever annual increase, 21 percent, in the rate at which drivers struck and killed pedestrians. In California, pedestrian deaths accounted for 27 percent of all traffic-related deaths in 2019.

Family notifications have been made and Salinas PD has identified the two victims as Michael David Ramos (33) Salinas resident and Amanda Nicole Ferrell (30) city of Gonzales resident.

Yesterday at 12:35 pm Salinas Police Officers responded to a report of a victim of a shooting near the intersection of E. Bernal Dr. and Maryal Dr. On arrival they located an adult male victim 33 years of age and an adult female victim 30 years of age suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers and Salinas Fire Personnel attempted life saving measures on the male victim however he succumbed to his injuries. The female victim was transported to a local hospital however she also died as a result of her injuries. The identities of both victims are being withheld at this time pending notification of family members. Witnesses described an unknown type vehicle driving eastbound on E. Bernal after the shooting however it is unknown at this point if the vehicle was involved in the incident.

Fatal Vehicle Pedestrian Collision

Saturday night at 1:30 am, officers investigated a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision at E. Alisal at Wood St. They located the victim, on the north sidewalk of the intersection, he was deceased at the scene. Victim identification is pending.

On Friday, 8/13/21 at approximately 8:25 pm Salinas Police Officers responded to a report of a victim of a shooting in the 1900 block of Harvard Ct. On arrival they located an adult male victim 36 years of age suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers attempted life saving measures and began CPR however the victim succumbed to his injuries. An adult male wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt was seen running from the area immediately after the shots were fired.
