Arrest Made in 2008 Homicide

On November 11, 2008, Salinas Police Officers responded to report of a victim of a shooting in the 1100 block of East Laurel Dr. On arrival they located the victim, Fernando Busio Santos (21) suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures however Santos was declared deceased at the scene.

Salinas Police Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

Although there was limited suspect information at the time of the incident, Salinas Police Detectives continued to re-interview witnesses and re-examine the evidence, resulting in new investigative leads. As a result of these new investigative leads, Detectives were able to identify Eric Hurtado (32) as the suspect in this homicide. On Thursday, March 6, 2025, Hurtado was arrested following a traffic stop. He was later booked into Monterey County Jail for the murder of Fernando Santos.

While an arrest has been made, and Detectives believe there are no outstanding suspects, this remains an active investigation.
