The Salinas Police Department embraces the philosophy of Community-Oriented Policing. Our goal is to not only enforce the law but also to prevent the need for enforcement by addressing the root causes of crime, such as poverty and lack of opportunity. This comprehensive strategy includes working with families, offering alternatives to at-risk youth, and targeted enforcement based on data.

A Message from Acting Police Danny Warner
City manager Rene Mendez announced this morning that Salinas has a new Acting Chief of Police, Salinas native and commander Danny Warner. Former Acting Chief of Police John Murray will resume his duties as Assistant Chief of Police.
“Acting Chief Murray has done an excellent job filling the shoes of our former chief, Roberto Filice, after Filice accepted a new job earlier this year in East Bay. As I step into this new role, I do so knowing the city of Salinas and the Salinas Police Department continue to be in good hands,” said Acting Chief Warner. “I am committed to working closely with the Mayor’s team, City leaders, the community, our commanders and members of SPD to move forward and positively impact public safety during this temporary period until a permanent chief is named. We will continue our commitment to collaborate with the community, address violence, deter crime, and make our city a safe place to work, visit, and call home.”
